The day went well despite the weather !!!

Well, despite the weather and my rendition of "singing in the rain" the Summer Fair was all in all a successful day. A great big thank you to all the stall holders who turned up and persevered throughout the day. Obviously due to the weather there was not as many people as previous years but well done to everyone. Also a great big thank you to all the volunteer helpers, Barry with his trailer fetching barriers, chairs and tables and to Bruce, Steve, Thomas, Garth and others who helped to do lifting and shifting before and after the event. Well done to Roz Knight who taught us how to do Maypole Dancing in the rain, people were soaked but still smiling!!! The Family Dog show was also well attended and thanks to the Gables Farm Dogs’ & Cats’ Home for putting this on. The Soapbox Derby want well with one or two eventful travel's down the hill. Thanks to all who entered and it would be nice to see some more teams entered into next years event. Thank you to Mandy and all her team for supplying the food in the evening and to Garth for the Hog Roast, and for providing the evenings entertainment - The Minstrel Cyclists. A big personal thank you to Lisa for all her help in the laying out of the stalls, putting up signs, selling Grand Draw tickets and programs, looking after the didicar rides, showing the marshals what to do during the day, looking after all the cash and counting it all out. We think to date that we have raised just over £1000 and each group should receive over £85 each. The final figure will be announced soon. So once again a big thank you to all that supported the event and see you all next year, Saturday 13th June 2015!!
Thanks once again
Gary Baird

The fair begins as always with a Fancy Dress parade. This year’s theme is Cartoon Characters. The parade starts at 13:00 from the Village Hall and will be led by the Tavistock Stannary Brass Band.

Once in the lower Village, the judging of the fancy dress will take place.

Once again there will be a various selection of stalls, bouncy castle, teas, coffees & cakes from the Buckland Chapel, a hog roast, burgers and of course the Grand Draw.

We also will have a Family Dog Show which will be held in the Buckland Community Meadow, behind the church. Please contact Gary, details below..

The Yelverton Fire Brigade will be on show, the Tavistock Stannary Brass Band will also be playing some of their favourite music and we hope to have Maypole dancing which will be provided by the children of St Andrews Primary School

We will also have the second running of the Buckland Monachorum Soapbox Derby, which will be sponsored by Tavistock Hire Centre. Application form can be downloaded from here. This event will take place through the village street. Teams are actively designing and building their soapboxes and some team meetings have been held in secret so as not to give away any clues as to their design.

There are still a few application forms available for those who wish to take part.

Judging of the soapboxes will take place at 7 pm on Friday June 27th, outside the Drake Manor Inn.

Anyone wishing to have a stall, the fee is £15.00 and payable on the day. Please book a pitch via the Chairman, Gary Baird on 01822 855272 or email

For safety reasons the road through the village will be closed from 10:30 in the morning and will reopen at 17:30. Local residents will have received a letter offering them alternative parking within the school grounds.

So please come along and support this worthwhile event. See you on the day.....
